Terms of Service
Welcome to Blackpdf ("we," "our," or "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our website at blackpdf.com, all associated tools, features, and services (collectively, the "Service"). By accessing or using Blackpdf, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please discontinue using the Service immediately.
1. Use of Service
Blackpdf provides online tools to convert, compress, edit, sign, protect, and modify PDF and other document formats. You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.
You must not:
- Use the Service to upload or process content that violates applicable laws or infringes third-party rights.
- Disrupt or interfere with the integrity, security, or performance of the Service.
- Attempt unauthorized access to any part of the Service, its infrastructure, or other users' accounts.
- Use automated scripts, bots, or similar tools to access the Service without prior written consent.
- Share, resell, or redistribute access to paid features without authorization.
2. Account Registration
Certain features of the Service require you to create an account. When creating an account, you agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information.
- Maintain the security of your password and account credentials.
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
- Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account.
You may create an account using your email address or through Google OAuth. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or remain inactive for an extended period.
3. File Handling & Processing
Blackpdf prioritizes privacy and security in how it handles files:
- Browser-Based Processing: Many operations happen directly within your browser. Files are not uploaded to our servers for these operations.
- Server-Side Processing: For resource-intensive operations (such as OCR, compression, and file conversions), files are securely transferred to our servers using 256-bit TLS encryption and automatically deleted after processing is complete.

4. Subscription Plans & Pricing
Blackpdf offers three subscription tiers:
- Free: Access to all basic PDF tools with 10 Pro feature uses per day, 25MB maximum file size, and standard processing speed. The Free tier may include advertisements.
- Pro ($7/month or $67/year): Unlimited Pro features, 50MB maximum file size, priority processing, up to 3 active workflows, cloud-synced passwords and signatures, shared file links (24-hour expiry), no advertisements, and email support.
- Business ($24/month or $229/year): Everything in Pro, plus 100MB maximum file size, up to 5 active workflows, 1 team with up to 5 members, shared team resources (passwords, signatures, watermarks, workflows, and files), team activity feed, and dedicated support.
Pricing is in US Dollars and is subject to applicable taxes as determined by our payment processor. We reserve the right to modify pricing with 30 days' notice to existing subscribers. Current pricing is always available at blackpdf.com/pricing.
5. Payment Processing
All payments are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited ("Paddle"), which acts as our Merchant of Record. When you subscribe to a paid plan:
- Paddle handles all payment processing, invoicing, sales tax, and VAT compliance on our behalf.
- Your payment information is collected and stored by Paddle, not by Blackpdf. Blackpdf never has access to your full credit card details.
- Paddle accepts major credit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay.
- All transactions are subject to Paddle's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
By completing a purchase, you authorize Paddle to charge the applicable fees to your chosen payment method.
6. Free Trials
Blackpdf may offer a free trial period for the Pro plan. During the trial:
- You will have full access to Pro features for 7 days.
- No credit card is required to start a free trial.
- At the end of the trial, your account will revert to the Free tier unless you subscribe.
Free trials are limited to one per user. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue free trial offers at any time.
7. Billing, Auto-Renewal & Cancellation
Auto-Renewal: All paid subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle (monthly or annual) unless you cancel before the renewal date. You will be charged the then-current rate for your plan at each renewal.
Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Upon cancellation:
- You will retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period.
- Your account will revert to the Free tier when the billing period ends.
- No partial refunds are provided for unused time within a billing period.
Upgrades: When upgrading from one plan to another (e.g., Pro to Business), you will be charged the prorated difference for the remainder of your current billing period.
Downgrades: Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period. When downgrading:
- Features exclusive to your higher plan will become unavailable when the downgrade takes effect.
- If you are on the Business plan with an active team, team members will lose access to Business features upon downgrade. Your team data (shared resources, activity history) will be retained for 30 days.
- Workflows exceeding your new plan's limit will be deactivated (not deleted). You can choose which ones to keep active.
- Cloud-synced passwords and signatures will remain stored but will not sync until you resubscribe to a qualifying plan.
8. Refund Policy
Because Paddle acts as the Merchant of Record, refund requests are handled through Paddle's systems. Our refund policy is as follows:
- Within 7 days of initial purchase: You may request a full refund if you are not satisfied with the Service by contacting support@blackpdf.com. Refunds will be processed by Paddle to your original payment method.
- After 7 days: Refunds are generally not provided. You may cancel your subscription at any time, and you will retain access until the end of your billing period.
- Renewals: Refund requests for auto-renewal charges must be made within 48 hours of the renewal charge.
- Annual plans: Refund requests for annual subscriptions follow the same 7-day policy from the date of purchase or renewal.

9. Teams & Collaboration
Business plan subscribers may create a team with up to 5 members. By using the Teams feature:
- The team admin (creator) is responsible for managing team membership and shared resources.
- Team members gain access to Business plan features through their team membership, regardless of their individual subscription tier.
- Shared resources (passwords, signatures, watermarks, workflows, and files) are accessible to all team members.
- The team admin may remove members at any time. Removed members immediately lose access to shared team resources and Business features (unless they have their own qualifying subscription).
- Team members may leave a team at any time from their account settings.
- Non-Business subscribers may be a member of one team at a time.
Blackpdf is not responsible for content shared within teams. Team admins are responsible for ensuring shared resources comply with applicable laws and these Terms.
10. Workflows
Workflows allow you to chain multiple PDF operations together for automated processing. By using Workflows:
- You agree that files processed through workflows are subject to the same handling and deletion policies as individual tool operations.
- Workflow output files are available for download and sharing for a limited period, after which they are automatically deleted.
- The number of active workflows is limited by your subscription plan.
11. Shared Files & Links
Pro and Business subscribers can generate shareable download links for processed files. These links:
- Expire automatically after 24 hours from creation.
- May be accessed by anyone with the link. You are responsible for controlling who you share links with.
- May be revoked by you at any time from your dashboard.
Blackpdf is not responsible for any consequences arising from files you choose to share.
12. Cloud Sync
Pro and Business subscribers may enable cloud synchronization for saved passwords and signatures. When cloud sync is enabled:
- Your saved passwords are encrypted using AES-256-GCM before being stored on our servers.
- Signature and stamp images are stored securely and synced across your devices.
- You may disable cloud sync at any time from your account settings. Disabling sync does not delete previously synced data from the cloud; you may request deletion by contacting support.
13. Electronic Signatures
The Sign PDF tool allows you to place electronic signatures, stamps, and text on PDF documents. Please note:
- Signatures created through Blackpdf are electronic signatures and may not constitute legally binding signatures in all jurisdictions.
- The "Seal document" feature applies a basic digital certification to indicate the document has not been modified after signing. This is not equivalent to a qualified digital signature under eIDAS, ESIGN, or similar regulations.
- Blackpdf does not provide legal advice. It is your responsibility to determine whether electronic signatures meet the legal requirements for your specific use case.
- Blackpdf is not liable for any disputes arising from the legal validity of signatures applied using our Service.
14. Third-Party Services
We use third-party services to enhance performance and reliability, including:
- CDNs (e.g., cdnjs) to deliver scripts and libraries
- External APIs to enable in-browser and server-side functionality
- Google Analytics for anonymous usage analytics
- Paddle for payment processing (see Section 5)
- Resend for transactional emails (account verification, team invitations)
These providers do not have access to your files or document content. They are used solely to deliver core functionality and infrastructure.
15. Intellectual Property
All design, software, branding, and content available on Blackpdf are the property of Blackpdf or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws.
You retain full ownership of your files. By using the Service, you grant Blackpdf a limited, temporary, non-exclusive license to process your files solely for the purpose of performing the requested operation. This license terminates immediately upon completion of the operation and deletion of the file.
16. Privacy & Data Protection
Your use of Blackpdf is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your files, personal information, analytics, cookies, and advertising data.
By using our Service, you acknowledge and agree to our data practices as described in that policy.
17. Data Retention & Deletion
We maintain the following data retention practices:
- Processed files: Automatically deleted from our servers after processing is complete.
- Workflow output files: Retained until their expiry period passes, then automatically deleted.
- Shared file links: Files associated with share links are deleted when the link expires (24 hours) or when you revoke the link.
- Cloud-synced data: Saved passwords and signatures remain stored while your qualifying subscription is active. Data is retained for 30 days after downgrade, then permanently deleted.
- Account data: Your account information (email, name, preferences) is retained while your account is active.
- Analytics data: Anonymous usage data and error logs are retained for up to 12 months.

18. Account Deletion
You may request deletion of your account at any time from your account settings or by contacting support@blackpdf.com. Upon account deletion:
- Your account and all associated personal data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
- Any active subscription will be canceled, and you will retain access until the end of your current billing period.
- If you are a team admin, your team will be dissolved and all team members will lose access to shared resources.
- Cloud-synced passwords, signatures, and other stored data will be permanently deleted.
- This action is irreversible. We cannot recover deleted accounts or data.
19. Data Export & Portability
You may request a copy of your personal data at any time by contacting support@blackpdf.com. We will provide your data in a commonly used, machine-readable format (such as JSON) within 30 days of your request. This includes:
- Account information (name, email, preferences)
- Processing history and activity logs
- Cloud-synced passwords and signatures (encrypted export)
Files that have already been processed and deleted cannot be exported, as we do not retain them.
20. Availability & Maintenance
We strive to keep the Service available at all times but cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation. Access may be temporarily limited for maintenance, upgrades, or other technical reasons. We will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice of scheduled maintenance.
21. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." Blackpdf makes no warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
- The Service may not always be secure, timely, or error-free.
- Processed files may not retain full formatting or compatibility across all platforms and applications.
- We do not warrant that the results obtained from using the Service will be accurate or reliable.
22. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Blackpdf and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from:
- Use or inability to use the Service
- Data loss, corruption, or system errors
- Interruptions caused by third-party providers
- Unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
- Any other matter relating to the Service
Our total aggregate liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid to us for the Service in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.
23. User Responsibility
You are solely responsible for the content of files you upload, process, or share. You must ensure you have the legal rights to use and share those files.
Blackpdf is not responsible for lost, corrupted, or improperly formatted files. We strongly recommend keeping backup copies of your original files before processing.
24. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at our discretion if you violate these Terms or misuse the platform. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before or at the time of suspension. You may stop using the Service at any time.
Upon termination:
- Your right to access paid features will cease immediately (unless you have remaining time on a billing period).
- Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including limitations of liability, disclaimers, and intellectual property) will remain in effect.
25. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email (if you have an account) or by posting a prominent notice on the Service at least 15 days before the changes take effect.
Your continued use of the Service after the updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you should discontinue use and cancel any active subscription.
26. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be handled exclusively in the courts of New Delhi, India.
Before initiating any formal proceedings, you agree to attempt to resolve disputes informally by contacting us at support@blackpdf.com. We will make good-faith efforts to resolve any issue within 30 days.
